What Could Happen Next

This pilot does not mean that AI agents will immediately manage everyone’s money. It was a controlled project, not a public launch.

However, it points to a possible future. AI assistants could one day manage regular household payments within set budgets. Companies could use AI to handle small purchases automatically. Smart devices could pay for services based on usage.

AI in banking is moving from helping people make decisions to taking actions itself.

The payment between Santander and Mastercard may seem small, but it could be an early sign of a larger change in how money moves in the digital economy.
